Image to PSD with layers
If you open a JPG in Photoshop and save it as PSD, you get one layer. To get a PSD where the person, the product and the headline are separate, something has to work out where each element is and fill in what is behind it. That is what layer splitting does.
Convert a JPG or PNG to a layered PSD
- Open the splitter and drop in your image.
- Choose Fast for most images or Pro for busy scenes. Optionally list the elements you want on their own layers.
- Wait about one to two minutes, then check the result: switch layers on and off and compare with the original.
- Click Download PSD. Layers you switched off stay in the file, hidden.
What is inside the PSD
- Canvas the size of the returned background (around 1 megapixel at 1K, sharper at 2K).
- One named pixel layer per element, positioned where it sits in the picture, bottom layer first.
- A flattened preview so file browsers show a thumbnail.
Layers in the PSD are scaled to fit the canvas. The ZIP download keeps each layer at the full resolution the model returned, which is useful if you plan to enlarge an element.
Check these before you hand it off
- Edges: zoom in on hair, glass and soft shadows. Pro usually gives cleaner edges.
- Redrawn areas: the background behind lifted elements is painted in, and some elements may be slightly redrawn. Compare with the original.
- Text: lettering is an image layer, not editable type.
